DOWNLOADABLE AUDIO
Udate: November 2007 - Due to the uncertain relationship between netlibrary.com and Recorded Books, the BCCLS contract with netlibrary.com has not been renewed. Please read the explanatory letter from the Executive Director of BCCLS.
The Library continues to provide downloadable books from Overdrive. This service is offered through a contract established by the Highlands Regional Library Cooperative. Overdrive offers 500+ titles and many of these are bestsellers. All of the titles can be found using the BCCLS Catalog. Include the word "downloadable" as a keyword in your search.
A NOTE ON MP3 players. Downloadable audiobooks may only be transferred to portable players that support Windows Media Format and Subscription Services. A list of tested devices can be found at the BCCLS page. The library owns (5) Samsung MP3 players. These may be borrowed by Hillsdale residents interested in downloadable audio and would like to give them a test-drive. Funding for this service is provided by the Friends of the Library.
The Naxxos Spoken Word Library contains classic fiction, fairytales, folktales, and a limited number of non-fiction titles. Streaming format only - not downloadable/burnable/copyable.
The Naxxos Music Library allows you to listen to hundreds of classical recordings in streaming audio format. The files cannot be burned to CD or synced to a portable MP3 player, but the quality is very good and suitable for reference.
