Snow closure Feb 10

In anticipation of the forecasted snow storm, the library will be closed on Wednesday, February 10. Items that are due on the 10th may be safely returned when the library reopens. Items returned to the bookdrop on the 10th or the 11th will be discharged as if returned on the 9th. Please do not attempt to drive down/up the driveway when it is covered by snow.

George Lemery has been in the food industry for over 30years and has spent many of those years studying, learning and developing his passion for wine. Come and learn simple methods and techniques that will help you the next time you want to enjoy a bottle of wine whether at home or in a restaurant.

Comedy Night Fundraiser - Jan 16

The Bernadette Kaser Fund

Comedy Night Fundraiser - Saturday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 40 Crest Street, Westwood. Tickets are $25 each and includes beer, wine, soda, and some snacks. Make checks payable to "The Bernadette Kaser Fund." Tickets available at the library.

The Hillsdale Library Board of Trustees have organized a special fund to benefit Library Assistant Bernadette Kaser. Ms. Kaser suffered extensive injuries when she was struck by a young boy on a bicycle in the library parking lot. She broke both of her wrists as she fell. Although necessary surgery was performed to mend her wrists, she remains without health insurance. We seek to raise funds to assist Ms. Kaser with day to day needs and to provide for the necessary physical therapy that will permit her the best use of both hands. Early Closure December 15th

The library will close early at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15th so that staff may attend the Boro Employees holiday party.

On Exhibit - Photography of Harold Gainer

Harold Gainer, 86 and a Hillsdale resident, will exhibit photographs in the meeting room during December. Mr. Gainer holds a doctorate degree and worked in the pharmaceutical chemistry industry. Mr. Gainer's interest in photography began while in the army, using a "Flash-Brownie" camera and 12 rolls of film - all for the cost of $12. Mr. Gainer is entirely self taught. After a long haitus, Mr. Gainer resumed photography while traveling with his wife Norma. With the exception of color printing, all of the developing, prints, matting and framing is performed by Mr. Gainer. His work has appeared in newspapers, The Bergen Museum of Art and Science, The New Jersey State Museum, and has won several prizes.

Patio Entrance Closed November 19

The patio entrance remains closed while the concrete hardens. The book drop is not accessible. Please use the Yesler entrance. For safety considerations, the library will close early at 4:30 p.m. Today, before dark.

Patio Repair / Early Closure Notice

A large portion of the patio will be replaced on Wednesday, November 18. There will be no access to the back door and no access to the book drop. The side door on Yesler Way will remain open until 4:00 p.m. This plan may change depending upon weather or contractor scheduling issues.

Peter Biedermann is a guitarist that has been writing and performing
original instrumental music for over 30 years. While his music covers
a number of genres in the electronic and acoustic fields, his performance
on the afternoon of Sunday, November 16th will focus on acoustic fingerstyle pieces in unique tunings on various 6 and 12 string guitars.

A Commercial Success

The Hillsdale Free Public Library held a library commercial contest in April to celebrate National Library Week. Entrants were asked to submit videos that could be used to promote the library. Philana and Kimberly Wang, of Hillsdale, won the contest with their commercial “A Date at the Library.” The sisters received a $100 gift card provided by the Friends of the Library. One day driver safety course - July 11

Regis Doucette, a Hillsdale resident, will conduct a driver's safety course at the library. Adult drivers may qualify for a 5% reduction on auto insurance for three years and up to 2 points off one's driving record. Mr. Doucette is a certified instructor by one of the agencies authorized by the NJ Motor vehicle Commission. The six hour course is presented on ONE SATURDAY, July 11 beginning 10:30 a.m. with a half-hour break The fee is $45.00 payable at the class. As you enter the library in the month of May take a moment to enjoy the prints on display. Artist, Sharon Gross has put examples of linocut, rubber stamp, and chine colle prints in the glass display cases.

She will be hosting a print making workshop at the library for teens in July.

Big Used Book Sale - May 9
